We are excited to share that PASL is re-launching a new professional learning opportunity this fall: The Civics Design Lab.

This experience is designed for teachers who want to design, test, and refine high-quality civic lessons that strengthen student agency, engagement, and critical thinking.

The Civics Design Lab builds on last year’s Democracy Knowledge Project pilot, where Philadelphia teachers created and implemented original civic units across several schools. The program will be led by Dr. Lauren Overton.

WHAT THE CIVICS LAB IS:

The Civics Lab is a cohort-style program for about 20 teachers across Neubauer Fellow-led schools. Teachers will collaborate in a supportive design community, develop and test civic lessons or short units, and use frameworks such as Educating for American Democracy. Teachers from last year’s pilot and Dr. Overton will help guide and support the work.

KEY DATES:

  • Teacher Application Window: August 24 to September 15
  • Notifications by September 22
